Celebrating a Year in Our New Southern California Office

AMS SoCal is a year old! We’ve enjoyed every minute of an eventful year—meeting new people, starting new projects, opening new schools, even completing a brand new campus. Here’s a look back at our first year—and a vision forward to what’s next.

It’s hard to believe an entire year has passed since we opened our Southern California office.

So much has happened since we welcomed everyone to AMS SoCal last September. We want to thank everyone who has supported us on this amazing journey and been a part of our success and growth. Opening our new office and completing new projects in so many Southern California communities has been such a rewarding experience.

As we celebrate all we’ve accomplished, in our company and in our communities, we also want to celebrate all those who made it possible—the schools, districts and schools boards, our dedicated project teams and our hardworking crews who were tireless in bringing so many visions to life.

Here’s a look back at our first year—and a look forward to those to come.

A Look Back at Our First Year

We’ve come a long way in the past 12 months—a testament to the power of working together toward a shared goal. We started with a desire to better serve our clients, partners and communities in Southern California, and that remains our goal.

The heart of our SoCal office is our SoCal team. We now have a full team working out of our office in Temecula. Having sales and support staff in-market helps us build closer relationships with our SoCal connections and helps us give every client, project and partner the personal attention and exceptional service that AMS has always been proud to provide.

As Southern California continues to grow, districts are expanding facilities to meet rising enrollment and modernizing buildings to add new programming and meet the evolving needs of students.

We’re excited that so many students and teachers started the school year in beautiful new buildings. We’re even more excited about the many different kinds of buildings we delivered—innovative classroom and special use buildings, as well as complete campuses that reflect the progressive vision of their communities.

We’re inspired by the creativity and commitment of our SoCal communities and proud of these new projects that embrace innovation in school design. Large, small, pre-K to community college, they set new standards that elevate the learning experience for thousands of SoCal students.

A Vision Forward

Southern California remains resilient, riding a strong economic wave that is fueling new development in the six-county market. Continuing to innovate forward with new ideas, new schools and new ways to make learning more empowering for students creates the positive change we all want.

Our newest projects capture the essence of Southern California—its creative spirit, active lifestyle and connection to the outdoors.

Here are two that reflect the vision of their communities, thoughtfully designed to promote healthy, active learning in supportive environments that prioritize physical and mental well-being. They’re space-efficient, sustainable and engaging, making the most of their sites and respecting the environment with greenspaces and outdoor areas where students and teachers are happy to be.

Mission Middle School
Escondido Union School District
Escondido, CA

The new classroom building at Mission Middle School is one of the EUSD’s bond-funded modernization projects. The large-scale project features a pair of two-story classroom buildings joined by a second-story covered pedestrian walkway with a central elevator. The 28,800-SF AMS EVOLVE building will house 21 classrooms and four science labs for the school’s 850+ students.

The contemporary building is fully custom with classrooms opening to an interior courtyard, a security-conscious design that enhances student and teacher safety while creating easy access to outdoor learning and gathering areas. The building also has striking architectural pop-outs and an upgraded technology infrastructure to support 21st century programming.

The building will support high-quality, rigorous education that inspires students to achieve their potential and become the innovators of tomorrow.

Lake Forest Elementary School
Saddleback Valley Unified School District
Lake Forest, CA

SVUSD’s facilities master plan called for phased capital improvement projects to add space and expand indoor/outdoor learning opportunities at Lake Forest Elementary. Working with PBK Architects, AMS designed and delivered two GEN7 classroom buildings and a food service building, sited around a large quad to take advantage of Orange County’s sunny climate. The three buildings add 9,620 SF of space, including seven state-of-the-art classrooms and a STEAM lab, as well as a full-service modular kitchen.

Classrooms open to the central quad, providing easy access to a variety of outdoor areas for studying, dining, gathering and playing sports. A vegetable garden supplies food for student meals prepared in the new kitchen. Large windows bring natural light and outdoor views into every classroom, creating an inviting, sustainable environment that promotes productive learning.
