Union School District: Alta Vista, Lietz, Oster, Noddin, Guadalupe and Carlton Elementary Schools

San Jose, CA

Project Overview

Six schools. One STEAM design. GEN7 is an engine scalable growth.

Modeled after Union’s Dartmouth Middle School STEM building, GEN7’s DSA-approved STEAM design was replicated at all six USD elementary schools—a scalable solution that made a districtwide STEAM initiative easier and more cost-effective to execute. Interior and exterior glass NanaWalls maximize flexibility in a compact footprint, allowing one large, open makerspace to be divided into two separate activity areas while bringing natural ventilation and daylight to each space—an energy-saving strategy that ensures superior indoor air quality and comfort. Concrete floors, markerboard walls, acoustical ceilings and quiet, high-efficiency HVAC systems work together to buffer sound in spaces where young students are empowered to create and explore.

  • Flexible STEAM design scales for multiple uses and sites
  • Open flow and embedded IT technology promote collaborative learning
  • Sliding glass walls create fluidity between indoor/outdoor learning areas
